American Institutes for Research Experts Available to Discuss President Obama’s State of the Union Address

Washington, D.C. – Education and health policy experts from the American Institutes for Research (AIR) are available to the media to discuss the implications of President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union address to the nation on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.

AIR, a nonpartisan not-for-profit behavior and social science research organization based in Washington, D.C., has a staff with extensive expertise in a broad range of education and health policy issues, including:

  • Gary Phillips, an AIR vice president and chief research scientist. Phillips, who served as the acting commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the U.S. Department of Education from 1999 to 2002, is nationally known for his expertise in education assessments and international comparisons of student performance.
