Conflict and Violence Prevention Learning Agenda
USAID’s Center for Conflict and Violence Prevention (CVP) aims to become more effective at addressing conflict and violence challenges, in their many forms, by identifying evidence on effective policies and programming that support armed conflict and violence prevention, mitigation, and reduction. This will be accomplished by drawing together the disparate communities within and external to USAID that focus on subsets of armed conflict and violence, to determine links, overlaps, and clear areas of potential collaboration. It will also be important to identify gaps in knowledge and understanding and areas of potential future research to support USAID in designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-informed programming and policies.
AIR joins the Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) and the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) in a three-organization research collaboration with Purdue University to advance CVP’s armed conflict and violence learning agenda and to inform USAID development efforts to be conflict sensitive and grounded in evidence everywhere that USAID works. AIR manages the overall project and is also responsible for communications and dissemination planning as well as conducting evidence reviews and original research on topics related to the integration of conflict sensitive strategies across sectors where USAID works (E.g., education, workforce, health, agriculture) and the motivations and incentives that influence non-violent individuals to engage with groups that produce armed conflict or violence.
