Developing a Theory of Change and Measurement Plan for Learning in NatureBridge Programs

At NatureBridge, educators believe that when young people discover the wonder and science of the natural world, they’re prepared for a lifetime of exploration and stewardship of the environment. NatureBridge strives to develop a generation of environmental stewards who have the knowledge, attitudes and skills to collaborate to protect and advocate for the natural world. By using a multifaceted curriculum for environmental education, NatureBridge helps students understand how the environment works and how humans interact with nature. Students are empowered to take action today for a better tomorrow.

As the field of social and emotional learning (SEL) has evolved, so too has our understanding of the ways in which to support and integrate social and emotional skill-development. NatureBridge partnered with a team from AIR beginning in 2017 to explore the ways in which evidence-based SEL practices align with NatureBridge’s approach to environmental education. AIR worked with NatureBridge educators to solicit input and reactions while developing NatureBridge’s revised Theory of Change and an aligned Learning and Measurement Plan. These documents serve as a guide for NatureBridge’s educational framework, articulating what NatureBridge believes is happening during their environmental science program and the program's impact on our participants.
