Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer (Burrell) Hudson, Ph.D. is a senior researcher at AIR with specialized experience in qualitative and quantitative research design, quality improvement, and dissemination, as well as program evaluation. Her responsibilities at AIR include research and evaluation to improve the longitudinal usability of the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC). Dr. Hudson also oversees the production of and co-authors the FY 2017 Public Libraries Survey Reports, Volume 1 and 2. Additionally, she provides quality assurance and research support for AIR’s other National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) survey projects. Previously, as an Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF) fellow, Dr. Hudson completed an independent project at AIR identifying data vulnerabilities and challenges in using multiple cycles of CRDC data. The findings were presented at the NCES annual data conference, STATS-DC.
Dr. Hudson has over 10 years of experience developing data collection and processing procedures and providing technical assistance in researcher and practitioner communities. Her qualitative expertise started with discourse analysis research exploring contexts for adolescent identity development and science success. Her qualitative experience includes providing project management support, conducting observations, interviews, and focus groups, and developing data analysis protocols and procedures, and qualitative analysis. Later, her quantitative expertise developed through research on the relationship between learning context, student identity, and performance outcomes in mathematics and engineering. Her quantitative experience includes providing project management support, survey administration, developing data collection and processing protocols and procedures, and data analysis.
She has co-authored research published in the SAGE journal, Culture & Psychology, and presented at national research conferences held by the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Psychological Association, and the American Education Research Association. Her previous work includes overseeing the evaluation of Digital Youth Network (DYN) programs in Chicago, Il and providing technical reviews of research proposals and articles.
