Mehari Belachew

Head of Survey Service, Kimetrica

Mehari Belachew is head of Survey Service at Kimetrica, an affiliate of AIR. For more than 20 years, he has worked in East Africa, including in Kenya, Tanzania, Somaliland, and South Sudan, managing small-, medium-, and large-scale surveys of social, economic, and demographic natures.

He has served for over 10 years in the Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia, as a senior researcher, research team leader, and the head of vital statistics department.

Over the course of his career, he has successfully partnered with such organizations as the USAID Mission Offices, specialized UN Agencies, the World Bank, and Save the Children, providing them with survey related quality data generation, resource optimization, and timely output delivery. Belachew has developed strong relationships with prominent government and private data collection firms across Africa. He also has built and maintained a roster of survey personnel who have varied expertise and work experience across numerous countries. Throughout his career, he has focused on coaching and mentoring of staff to build the next generation of survey researchers.
