Nicol Christie

Nicol Christie manages technical assistance and research projects in AIR. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Christie has more than 20 years of experience serving children and families in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C. She has extensive knowledge of applied research, improvement science and adult learning methodology.

In addition to managing projects and teams, Christie is a highly-skilled technical assistance provider with rich content and craft knowledge in several domains: extended learning, college and career readiness, and early literacy. Christie has led a variety of technical assistance projects in these content areas including serving as a project lead for the Midwest Comprehensive Center for the past four years. Christie specializes in designing technical approaches that embed a framework for sustainability of the initiative at the local level. She develops stakeholder capacity-building strategies and creates evidenced-based resources for state and locate education agencies across the country.

Christie has extensive experience brokering relationships with state and local education agencies. She has worked with numerous clients in regions across the country. Her primary responsibilities include project management, professional development training and coaching, guiding state and local education systems school improvement activities. Her technical skills including developing multimedia products including web-based modules and websites, creating instructional tools and resources designed to highlight best practices and build capacity of educators. Christie has mastered virtual collaboration methods which improve client and partner communications and productivity which she uses to unify internal and external teams, forming cohesive and collaborative partnerships. She also has extensive qualitative data collection and analysis experience having conducted dozens of field-based studies. She utilizes improvement science to guide education systems toward reform.

Christie has co-authored several papers, edited a book and produced dozens of multimedia pieces. These media explored timely topics such as implementation science, school improvement, and career and technical education. Several products were produced as part of Race to the Top and 21st Century Community Learning Center programs. Christie began her career in Philadelphia and District of Columbia public education systems as a K-8 grades certified teacher, and is a National Writing Project Fellow.
