With national economic competitiveness a top priority of policymakers, there is an emphasis on increasing the number of Americans—particularly those from underrepresented groups—who complete some form of postsecondary education. Rising costs, however, have made postsecondary education more difficult for families to afford. Policymakers need high-quality research and evaluation work to identify successful practices that increase educational access, and to coordinate K-12 preparation with postsecondary needs.
