Research Fundamentals and Training for Multi-Stakeholder Research Teams

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) engages patients and other stakeholders to participate as partners in all phases of patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) so that the research produces trustworthy information that can help patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders make decisions. Most stakeholders, however, lack the knowledge of how research is conducted, and engaging patients and other stakeholders in a research study is new to many academic health researchers.

To help both groups succeed, AIR is developing two online learning programs to help stakeholders, researchers, and research teams build knowledge and skills:

  • The Research Fundamentals learning package will teach stakeholders the terms and methods used to conduct each phase of the PCOR research process.
  • The Conducting Research in Multi-stakeholder Teams learning package will help both researchers and stakeholders with different backgrounds and interests work together effectively. In addition to designing and creating the packages, AIR convenes a Stakeholder Advisory Group comprised of experts in team science and stakeholder-driven research to help guide development and dissemination.
