Rob Allport

Robert Allport is a Chief of Party in the Food Security and Third-Party Monitoring program at AIR. His primary responsibilities include provision of evidence-based guidance to international donors and their humanitarian partners acting in complex emergency environments. Evidence is generated through the design of research protocols, the management of data collection and analysis and the compilation of comprehensive reports.

In his role as Chief of Party, Allport manages a team of 25 full time and numerous part time staff. Allport has worked to improve the service provided to humanitarian partners by working with AIR’s modeling team to develop predictive models for agricultural yield, market price and access and conflict. These models enable a greater degree of confidence in food security predictions than is normally possible through traditional data collection and analysis.

Allport has extensive experience in the management of large multidisciplinary humanitarian projects, particularly those related to the agriculture and livestock sectors. Prior to joining AIR, he was the program coordinator for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Kenya, responsible for business development and the technical oversight of all of the organization’s projects in the country. During his time at FAO he was an active member of the steering committee for the Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS), which developed a sphere companion module supporting livestock based livelihoods in emergencies.
