Consequences of Selective Reporting Bias in Education Research

In systematic reviews and meta-analyses, selective reporting can create at least two types of biases: publication bias and outcome reporting bias. AIR is developing two selection models that will simultaneously account for selective reporting and effect size dependencies when conducting a meta-analysis.

The Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, Evaluation (5E) instructional model was first introduced in 1990 and is ubiquitously used in STEM education. Using a rigorous systematic review methodology, AIR is identifying all published and unpublished studies that use a high-quality study design to evaluate the effects of the 5E instructional model and its derivatives.

Qualitative Development of Patient-Reported Outcome Measure for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders

AIR conducted a literature review and focus groups to identify a reliable and valid Patient-Reported Outcome Measure to document health outcomes for patients with Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD). This project is part of an outgrowth of efforts by the FDA to improve therapy for TMD through incorporating patient input into the design of measures of outcomes that are used to evaluate those therapies.

Promoting Knowledge Accumulation About Intervention Effects: Exploring Strategies for Standardizing Statistical Approaches and Effect Size Reporting

Toward the goal of more rapid knowledge accumulation via better meta-analyses, this article explores statistical approaches intended to increase the precision and comparability of effect sizes from education research. As computation of the total variance can be complex in multilevel studies, a shiny application is provided to assist with computation of the total variance and subsequent effect size.
