Tammie Knights

Principal TA Consultant

Tammie Knights is a principal technical assistance consultant at AIR. She is leading and supporting state-wide equity initiatives in the District of Columbia and Ohio as a part of the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders, where she supports their work in leader and teacher development. Knights also supports the Southeast Comprehensive Center work in her home state of North Carolina. Knights led state-wide efforts in Maine and Idaho to transform their principal evaluation systems and was a superintendent coach and trainer for AIR’s principal observation systems in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition, Knights served as the implementation monitor for an Institute of Education Sciences study on principal professional development. Knights also led the National Charter School Resource Center, which serves as a national center to provide resources, information, and technical assistance to support the successful planning, authorizing, implementation, and sustainability of high-quality charter schools and continues to support this project as a subcontractor.

Before joining AIR, Knights was a coordinator for Baltimore City Schools’ Office of New Initiative where she managed the approval and evaluation process for all operator run schools. In addition, she created differentiated learning opportunities for the principals of secondary operator run schools and guided charter boards on evaluating principals. Previously, Knights served as a middle school principal in both Baltimore and Memphis as part of the New Leaders for New Schools program. Prior to that, she was the charter program director for Teach For America in Atlanta where she was a key member of the team that grew the corps of teachers from 55 to 200. Knights began her career as a middle school teacher with the Teach For America program in Baltimore.
