Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS)

The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) is an international comparative study of teachers, their working conditions, and the learning environment in schools. TALIS is organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and aims to provide internationally comparable data on teaching and learning environments around the world, with the goal of informing education policy. The survey collects data through its teacher and principal questionnaires which ask questions on a wide range of topics, including school leadership; appraisal and feedback; professional development; school climate; teaching practices; and job satisfaction.

TALIS began in 2008, and is administered every five years. 2013 was the first year in which the United States participated in TALIS, along with 33 other education systems. AIR provides technical and analytical support for U.S. participation in TALIS, including consultation and management support; technical review of statistical reports, data files, and data documentation; expert analysis; technical support for the development of web-based data tools and other products; and training outside researchers to use TALIS data files and other survey resources.
