Diversity at AIR: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Benchmarking

AIR recognizes that in addition to monitoring and measuring DEI activities and achievements internally, it is essential to engage external experts and participate in independent audits that benchmark our progress against industry standards.

Our responses to these surveys assist us in gauging our strengths and flagging opportunities we might otherwise miss to strengthen our DEI performance. In addition, the survey findings show us how our results compare with those of Fortune 500 corporations, health care organizations, and other like-minded research institutes.

We participate annually in the Seramount Inclusion Index, DiversityInc. Top 50, DiversityMBA 50 Out Front, and the Disability Equality Index. Questions from these surveys address a broad array of focus areas, such as employee demographics, supplier diversity, leadership commitment, DEI policies, and HR. Our DEI Office collaborates on completion of these surveys with human resources, finance, procurement, communications, and the office of the CEO.

In 2021, the progress we reported via these surveys was recognized with AIR’s being named to:

We celebrate these milestones of progress we’ve achieved on our DEI journey. At the same time, we regard this recognition as an impetus to seek further improvements through ongoing work and internal benchmarking initiatives that can aid in identifying performance gaps and new opportunities for improvement.

Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Benchmarks

In partnership with the Center for Global Inclusion, the DEI Office has convened focus groups that represent various stakeholders and employee groups across the institution. With their collaboration, AIR completed the Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Benchmarks (GDEIB), a tool designed to enable organizations to assess the current state of their DEI efforts and devise strategies for managing and measuring ongoing progress. The range of participants in this process extends from the DEI Council, ERG leaders, and the Executive Leadership Team to new hires and remote employees.

The DEI Council and DEI Office use the results of this internal benchmarking initiative to identify and address priorities for each new year.

AIR is a sponsor of the GDEIB.
