Lynn S. Fuchs

Lynn Fuchs is an Institute Fellow at AIR and a research professor at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Fuchs conducts programmatic research on assessment methods for enhancing instructional planning, on instructional methods for improving mathematics and reading outcomes for students with learning disabilities, and on the cognitive and linguistic student characteristics associated with mathematics development and responsiveness to intervention. Her practices have widely impacted education practices in the United States and abroad.

In 2009, Dr. Fuchs was identified as one of Forbes Magazine's 14 "revolutionary educators" nationwide. In 2021, she will receive the Harold W. McGraw, Jr Prize in Education, which “celebrates innovation, inspiration, and impact in education by recognizing outstanding leaders who have devoted their careers to closing gaps and accelerating educational opportunity to all students.”

Dr. Fuchs has published more than 500 empirical studies in peer-review journals and has been identified as one of the most frequently cited researchers in the social sciences. She sits on the editorial boards of many scientific journals including the Journal of Educational Psychology, Scientific Studies of Reading, Reading Research Quarterly, Elementary School Journal, Journal of Learning Disabilities, and Exceptional Children.

Dr. Fuchs has received a variety of awards to acknowledge her research accomplishments and impact. This includes the American Educational Research Association’s Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award; the Council for Exceptional Children’s Career Research Award; Vanderbilt’s Earl Sutherland Award for Research Accomplishments; and the Mayor’s Educator of the Year Award (Nashville, TN).
